But with his pacemaker Rerouted quickly opening up a big advantage, Queally appeared slightly concerned and he went for home early on Frankel. He easily picked up Rerouted on the turn for home and was well clear once straightening up, but soon after the patrol gauge began to run low. The 30-100 market leader was treading water in the final furlong but had three-quarters of a length in hand over Zoffany at the finish, with Excelebration third. Cecil said: "He settled really well. Obviously the pacemaker went off very fast and he had to ask him to take it up. "Tom said when he was in front a furlong out he thought he'd done enough. He said he was getting really idle which is good in a way as it means we can ride a normal race on him. "The plan was to kick on rounding the bend as he had done in the Royal Lodge (here) last year, but now he's getting wiser and he thought he'd done enough, rather like in the Guineas." Cecil added: "He wasn't at all tired, he just thought he'd done enough. That's good really, it means we can settle him in behind now. "I think it's inevitable we'll meet Canford Cliffs and Goldikova somewhere, unless this horse goes over a mile and a quarter which would be the Juddmonte International. Maybe the Sussex or the Juddmonte, we'll see." Queally said: "He jumped a little bit slow but he settled better than he's ever settled. "Nobody wanted to chase the pace so as a result I went sooner rather than later. He was running for a long way and was just getting a bit fed up in front. He does it so easy. "He wasn't getting tired. He's growing up all the time. Everyone seems to think he can just jump and run but he's more versatile than that. We've got options with regards to tactics and he's the one to beat at the moment." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Phenomenal Frankel blitzes Guineas rivals Qipco 2,000 Guineas (Group 1) 1m, 3yo colts and fillies' FRANKEL did everything expected of him and more as he made all and hammered his rivals in an astonishing performance to land the Qipco 2,000 Guineas for trainer Henry Cecil and jockey Tom Queally by six lengths. "By God, he showed them," the jockey said. "He did it better than I ever thought he'd do it. The only thing this horse does is gallop so why stop him." The manner and swagger of Frankel's performance was exceptional as none of the other 12 runners in the race ever got close to the unbeaten superstar, let alone threatening him. Rerouted had been expected to make the pace for Frankel, but the 1-2 favourite exploded from the stalls and it quickly became apparent that he was not needed. Queally accepted his position and sat still aboard the Khalid Abdullah-owned leader as he drew further and further away from his rivals with Casamento next best, seven lengths down at the halfway point. Queally looked between his legs with just over two furlongs remaining and was no doubt stunned by the distance he was clear - and the ease at whichhe had achieved it. The result meant those who opposed Frankel using the Racing Post app got their money back. It was a third 2,000 Guineas victory for Cecil after Bolkonski in 1975 and Wollow a year later. "That was lovely wasn't it? In the last furlong, he was waiting for the other horses. It's a relief. He's a very good horse - it's difficult to compare years," Cecil said. While Frankel was clear Derby favourite with the bookies at 7.30pm on the day of the Guineas, stablemate World Domination was narrow market leader on Betfair, availableto back at 6.2 compared to Frankel's 6.4 Cecil said about the Derby: "We'll sit and think, I've got a few ideas. Once I've talked to the prince [owner Khalid Abdullah] and we've discussed it, we'll let you know," he said. "He's in the Dante. We'll see how he comes out of this, whether he gets a mile and a half is a different matter. We'll leave all options open." After catching his breath, Queally added: "He showed a lot of speed - that was the thing we would've learnt today. The last furlong he was idling. I've never sat on anything like him. It's great to sit on something so great so early in my career. He's unbelievable. There's no words to describe what he did." |
